When an order is placed for a .ca domain, the requested name is automatically checked against the CIRA [Link: http://www.cira.ca/] (Canadian Internet Registration Authority) registry for any "conflicting domains." If the name is considered a "conflicting domain," the registration is blocked and the name is placed in pending status.
